National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation Designer: Masaaki Hiromura Member of: JAGDA, Japan
The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation opened in Tokyo in 2001. Its objective is to act as the plateform for interpersonal contact by providing information on the latest science technology and producing interactive exhibitions. Masaaki Hiromura supervised the visual identity and the signage system. He introduced a unique signage system which does not spoil the transparency of the architecture (mainly made of glass) and in which information on the floor guides visitors to destination, without losing the transparency of the architecture or interfering with visitors looking at exhibits.
Masaaki works actively in the fields of advertising and design (advertising design for MUJI, etc.) but also on signage system and Visual Identity (VI) for public institutions (Tokyo Stock Exchange Arrows, etc.). Although graphic design is his main field of expertise, Masaaki is renowned for innovative space design through interdisciplinary collaboration with architects and other creative disciplines. As a member of the team developing the concept for VISUALOGUE, the 2003 Icograda congress to be held in October 2003 in Japan, he will be in charge of the signage system of the venue.
